Hotel Paradiso is a browser based prototype, built in Godot 4, with themes of crime, vice and moral compromise.
It is 1974 on Dock Street. A notary's letter tells you that a grandfather you never met has died and left you the Hotel Paradiso. It comes with its debts and a single habitable room with a stained mattress. You build the hotel up and deal with the guests, who have back stories and bring dilemmas with them. Decisions matter and shape how the game plays. As the hotel grows, so does your reputation with the local figures on both sides of the law.
The people in the hotel come from Character Creator 2D, a Unity asset, which I ported to Godot with an AI coding agent over three days. An editor script exports the rigs, animations, parts and textures, and a GDScript runtime rebuilds the characters with the same part swapping, recolouring, body types and expressions. A character saved in one engine loads in the other. The game renders each person off screen into a small sprite sheet and swaps it in for the placeholder pixel figure.
