Nuclear Poker

2026-11-02 · by vectorless

Nuclear Poker is a browser game about nuclear strategy, adapted from a teaching game by Vinay Gupta and Dan Carter. Collect the four Technologies to test a weapon and the four Capabilities to become a Superpower, then decide whether to nuke, threaten, trade with or disarm your neighbours. You play against two to four AI powers, each with a character of its own: a Hawk, a Deterrer, an Opportunist, a Wildcard, and three who think three levels deep about what the others believe. Trades can be broken, threats can force a hand, anyone can strike out of turn, and a game ends in annihilation, a last power standing, a stand-down, hegemony, stalemate, or Mutually Assured Destruction, reported in a special edition of the paper.

Built in Godot 4 and deployed to GitHub Pages, with the tests and six hundred AI-versus-AI games run before every release. The code is MIT, the art and audio are CC0, and the rules text keeps the original's GNU Free Documentation License. It is an unofficial adaptation, and the source is on GitHub.
